Philip Hewitt
Philip Hewitt (he/him) is the Grants Specialist, focused on researching public funding opportunities for SOPEC and its members, working collaboratively across the organization to develop high quality grant proposals, and completing budget, reporting and compliance tasks to complete grant-funded projects. He has earned a degree in economics from John Carroll University. His interest in sustainability first started with a workforce development program that he co-founded to introduce solar electricity to high school students in Cleveland, Ohio. The culmination of this project was a 1200 kW microgrid laboratory installation completed by the students on St. Clair Avenue in 2019. Hewitt has always had a passion for urban design and regional planning, and he is driven by the need to generate sustainable energy assets for communities big and small across Ohio. In his free time, Hewitt enjoys family time with his wife and dog, especially drive-in movies, kayaking down the Stillwater, and trips down to Hocking Hills. He loves reading novels, performing poetry, biking, and gardening, as well as soccer and Dayton Flyer basketball.
