SOPEC acts as a statewide energy manager for sustainable member communities by obtaining fixed, competitive supply rates for eligible electric utility customers in your community by utilizing community choice aggregation. SOPEC’s supplemental programs and services are designed to enhance sustainable economic development objectives, save taxpayer money, and advocate for consumer rights and protection within Ohio’s competitive electricity market. SOPEC guides your community to the resources and data you need to develop an energy management plan, providing your community’s leadership an opportunity to impact your local economy in truly meaningful ways.

SOPEC is a Council of Governments that is governed by the communities it serves. Each community that joins SOPEC becomes a member of the General Assembly and each county is represented with a seat on the SOPEC Board of Directors. Membership with SOPEC comes at no cost to local government budgets. Once joining SOPEC, member communities can activate an opt-out electric and/or natural gas governmental aggregation program that features no opt-out fees for your community’s residents if they do not want to participate. SOPEC’s current electricity supply partner is AEP Energy, a competitive retail electric service (CRES) provider.
